A
young blind Spanish woman became the junior world champion in the real time
competition for speech capturing.
Last week in Prague the international competitions for speech capturing were held (stenography, stenotype machines, computer keyboarding, and voice recognition). Competitors were from Italy, Spain, China, Czechoslovakia, Germany, England, America, Turkey, Russia etc.
An extraordinary and very significant result was achieved by a blind Spanish girl, Miriam Martin Garcia, who has won two junior world titles: the first and most prestigious was the real time speech capturing and the second was the speech capturing with the possibility of making corrections, both with electronic stenotype machine. For this second competition she used a voice synthetizer.
The
same method, developed for the Italian language, was also used by Francesca
Cabiati who won the world championship for speech capturing against strong
competition from the emerging Chinese contestants.
The next Congress will be held in Peking in 2009.
